      This makes sense :)

I agree with Pegeen that quantum physics has opened us to possibilities we may’ve once found suspicious. I can’t pretend to understand a lot of it but have read enough to respect the realities of energy and energy transfer. As I was reflecting on the miracles of Jesus during Easter week, I couldn’t help but wonder if Jesus’ miraculous cures weren't thru Reiki!!!

First, “woo woo” is such a moronic term - immature and ignorant. Secondly, science has drastically changed over the years especially since Quantum Physics arrived on the scene. How can anyone ever think Nature is not perfect or the body not brilliant and capable of healing itself? Living in harmony with the natural world, eating whole, unprocessed foods, drinking plenty of clean water, disconnecting from the toxic overstimulation of social media, moving our bodies in ways we enjoy, having deep, meaningful friendships, doing purposeful work that serves the greater good, all promotes a vital, passionate, connected and healthy life. Taking walks in nature, growing a garden, book clubs, taking any type of class, doing art, cooking, volunteering - it’s all healing. We are energy, everything is energy. You can develop a deep relationship with your energy (Life force) and become skillful at using it to heal yourself and others. It’s a skill, takes practice and dedication. Meditation and mindfulness helps to harness the power of our minds, to connect to our powerful heart and learn how to respond to life in loving, compassionate and caring ways. To think we already know everything shuts down our curiosity, our wonder, our growth and expansion. Massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, biofeedback, hypnosis, aromatherapy all at one time were considered “woo woo.” Reiki is now included in hospital and Hospice programs because it promotes a deep sense of peace and calm. It’s used before and after surgery and various treatments such as chemotherapy. A loving touch, when delivered with intention and attention, is extremely powerful. After a year of sheltering in place, we have learned how desperate we are for touch, for connection, for love, for family and friends. I do not think our society is a good advertisement for the argument of science vs “woo woo.” Look at the indigenous cultures, the “blue zones” where our modern day diseases don’t even exist. How sad that we are so suspicious of our own innate Power and that of our natural world.

Chills! Yes, Pegeen!! I connect so deeply with what you share here. I agree, it's quite ignorant to dismiss the "woo-woo" practices -- and yet I understand why people do this. I think in the west we live in a culture of deeply ingrained permission-seeking. People seek permission from the addition of all sorts of externalities — people, practices and places — to heal ourselves when in reality if we might remove some of the barriers to looking more intentionally within, we might find that healing is quite possible, quite accessible. I think that's why the more basic, readily available rituals, practices and routines, the simple and uncomplicated stuff, is actually so powerful. It's less clouded by the intuition or inputs of others, and if it's something that is made in loving kindness (a song, a meal, a piece of art, really anything) it allows us to see that also within ourselves.

Thanks for your very compassionate reply. I am currently retired from my personal training and massage business but continuing to volunteer within my Reiki community. I had a very serious illness 10 years ago and was healed through functional medicine, Eden medicine, Reiki and Qi gong. Now it is my pleasure to help others navigate their own healing challenges. Energy is such a powerful, beautiful healing modality and I hate when it’s disrespected. But I, too, understand exactly what you are saying. Today I was triggered and just had to speak my mind!

Such a noble mission you are taking on. As a side note, i have never tried Qi gong but I really need to!

I think for many people once they try these modalities and they work for them, they move past any “stages” and into acceptance. These practices spread because they work for people. I remember trying to convince my doctor that acupuncture helped me stay pregnant. He would not entertain it. Then a rival clinic started a study on its benefits. Then he got interested. Skeptics have their place. I prefer living as a curious optimist.

I definitely connected to this, as a yoga teacher who just wrapped up a week leading people through intense practices like yoga nidra (and hearing people's experiences in the moment), tarot readings and Reiki. It's totally real, but it's not if you don't believe in it.

Great read! Thanks for sharing. Currently journaling to set intentions for upcoming Reiki session. Woo-woo experiences are where the magic and faerie tale elements of life itself flourish alongside the mundane.

I love this! and I love the intention of journaling before the reiki session.
