There's something fundamentally curious about how something designed to be secretly consumed often applies some of the best techniques for its creation and its dispersal (if you're an engineer, you'll find articles about Pornhub's web optimization for video quite entertaining).
Pornhub's Instagram live is often wholesome, with porn stars coming online to speak about their lives, effectively humanizing them and endearing them to you. Then there's the end-of-year statistics where they tell you how the world consumed porn that year. Combine that with Pornhub's giving efforts and you're mostly in love with the brand.
This...this was very disturbing and horrifying. I am grateful it was published, and while it took me a few days to steel myself to read, I'm glad I read it. It has offered me a balanced and better view of this company, and of porn, and I am happy to see the light.
Update: For those following this story the credit card companies cut Pornhub off causing them a lot of grief. They have now removed some 10 million videos and only allow videos from certified contributers.
I don't really know if that 10 million is a big number or not but I think this is a great step - all prompted by good journalism.
The challenge now is how to apply a similar standard to all the other porn sites out there that may not be as market driven as pornhub. (ie they don't use credit cards or care if they are cut off).
However, incredibly important to start this chilling conversation as to the world that Pornhub is creating for everyone... and to question why the hell there isn't more legislation enacted against this company?

This may be the same article I posted a few years ago. I was told then that it was an exaggeration and untrue. Regardless, porn is a slippery slope and one I think that easily gets distorted the more one is exposed to it. Like any addiction, one needs to increase the dosage to get “high.” Then violence and force become exciting. This is way beyond disturbing.
I kept trying NOT to read this. It is so disturbing to know about but also so important. Porn distorts human sexuality and ruins lives. The victims never stop being victimized which is pure torture. I have a friend whose husband became addicted and it ruined their marriage. It is ironic that cell phone videos have helped us to resist police brutality and violence and support racial justice but in this instance have created a universe of human suffering.
This is such a tough read. I work in trust and safety and I’m exposed to a pretty harsh reality but this is next level. Especially as I think that this article only just scratches the surface. Great for AOTD though to get some attention for an issue many of us would rather just ignore
