BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!!!! Best article I have read concerning this subject. Many times I laughed out loud. The biggest take away - never make decisions from a place of fear. To personally share my story in “cliff note” fashion, I did not want to get married or have children growing up in the 60’s and 70’s - unheard of in previous generations. I went to college and wanted a career. But I partnered with a man who promised 100% participation in the parenting of our children ( I promised one, he talked me into 2 because kids need each other to talk about what idiots their parents are!). I was able to work part time and pursue my artistic endeavors, which fueled my passion, restored my energy and allowed me to enjoy the process of raising my children. To this day, I feel being a mother the hardest job I have ever had, but the one that changed me the most - pulled greatness from me that I did not even know was there. You don’t have to have kids to necessarily feel this but I can’t imagine what else would profoundly affect me to this degree. There is something to the carrying of a developing life and then the pain of releasing him/her into this world that is beyond the mind - it’s the heart that is deeply awakened as best as I can describe it. By the way, I do think pets can illicit a similar response because of their vulnerability, dependency and the exchange of unconditional love. But they are a lot of work too!
