I feel this should be AOTD. So much of what was stated in this article I felt during the shut down. Love the terms “collective effervescence” and “emotional contagion.” I am aware that there is a collective energy field and agree that it is inherently social and woven through our interactions with others. I knew before the shut down that I thrived in an interdependent world but Covid made me feel it deep within my entire being.

There is a lot of value here. My concern is that the article kinda in a way seems to start placing perimeters around individual experience. This article leads me to question: Are we going to begin ostracizing individuals going thru depression and anxiety for fear of it being contagious? Are we really starting to label melancholy as mental illness?!? That feels dangerous to me:

melancholy is a potential warning sign of mental illness.

Didn’t we learn anything from Inside Out and the value of even the darker shadow emotion experiences and channeling those into growth (collectively)?

Individual experiences through life are all so different. Some will experience the more melancholy and sadder better alone or perhaps better in groups. Same with the more positive emotions.

I do acknowledge we need to center and balance more with integration of interdependence and our pandemic collective experience is enhancing this education. Too much codependency is unhealthy and too much independence is unhealthy whilst we each need to respect autonomy of individual choice.

I admire a lot in this read. At the same time not every individual journey is a formula for another. Important to remember.
