Many things you might already know given his fame, but the part about his integrity and the dual experience of working with him was new for me. Also this:

Launching the Roadster into space was a pretty epic marketing stunt! Also having the astronauts drive up to the launch pad in NASA branded Model X's was pretty awesome. I'm all for these alternative approaches instead of cheesy commercials that were the norm for so long.
SpaceX is scheduled to launch humans into space for the first time ever today (May 30th) at 3:22 p.m. Eastern! Such an unimaginably huge milestone not just for SpaceX but also for NASA and the United States. Great timing on this article @deephdave, looking forward to catching up on the rest of the series.
Thanks for dropping that link! At the time of writing it's still going on (~12h in), as far as I understood they are preparing for docking with the ISS in about one hour.
This is a well-produced livestream. It was fun scrubbing back to see the launch, "video logs" from the astronauts, commentary explainers and background info intermissions (they talk a lot about the design of the space suits, lol). Pretty entertaining!
Also surprising to see the sleek-looking touch-screen interface and ship interior. Gazillions of switches and buttons seem to be a thing of the past. It's as if SpaceX brought Apple-style design to space travel.

The ship interior is really cool. I was shocked when they got out of their seats and gave the tour. It's so much more spacious inside than I imagined, especially compared to the Soyuz capsule.

By fourth grade, he was constantly buried in the Encyclopedia Britannica...He thinks of humans as computers, which, in their most literal sense, they are. A human’s hardware is his physical body and brain. His software is the way he learns to think, his value system, his habits, his personality. And learning, for Musk, is simply the process of “downloading data and algorithms into your brain.” Among his many frustrations with formal classroom learning is the “ridiculously slow download speed” of sitting in a classroom while a teacher explains something, and to this day, most of what he knows he’s learned through reading.

Interesting dude, thats for sure. Great post too, i'm keen to keep up on the rest of the series I imagine it will be compelling
