      Complicated Legacy?

      Sure.

However, one cannot deny that Stewart Brand's idealism is something that we can largely learn from in regards to our relationship with technologies.

"A realm of intimate, personal power is developing - power of the individual to conduct his own education, find his own inspiration, and share his adventure with whoever is interested."

I cannot wait until the Biography on Stewart Brand is released, as well as the Documentary on what I believe was a very interesting life for him. It would be a thrill to meet Mr. Brand!

'We Are as Gods and Might as Well Get Good at It'

From Counterculture to Cyberculture by Fred Turner is a fascinating account diving deeper on the Whole Earth Catalog. I cannot recommend it enough.

Wow. This piece offers a powerful combo of inspiration and futility. So much to think about.

Part of me hates myself for believing that we’re on the verge of a great Enlightenment. Yet part of me thinks there’s nothing more important than nurturing that little seed.

I can’t stop thinking about the word “Whole.” I see it everywhere now.

Off to find archived issues of Whole Earth Catalog.

Oh my gosh: "When I first heard about the ten-thousand-year clock, as it is known, it struck me as embodying the contemporary crisis of masculinity. I was not thinking about death."

Such a great find, Jessica! That clock sounds utterly ridiculous to me! (Right?)

The last paragraph is explosive. Anne Wiener is shaping up to be the voice of our tech generation.

“It’s been a long hard slog for women. It’s been a long hard slog for people of color.”

It’s so annoying to me when people say stuff like that, clearly as an afterthought. It’s okay if you don’t give a shit (actually, maybe not really) but regardless, the worst thing one can do is fill up space with meaningless noise about how much you care. Do something or don’t. Less talk, more action. Anna did a good job of poking into that hypocrisy.
