I would never look to a hypocritical patriarchal institution for any kind of examination or truth about the role of women throughout religious history. This entire denial and denigration of a woman’s natural, innate sexuality is completely immature, stunted and its own kind of “sin”. Worshipping virgins is so indicative of a man’s fear of a woman’s true, fierce, creative power. We have witnessed first hand what the denial and suppression of sex has led the Catholic Church to become - a place where men of power, who supposedly represent god on earth, violated young innocent boys, traumatizing them for life. Our bodies, our sexuality, are vital, creative, sacred, and intelligent energy systems. For me, an ex-Catholic, the 2 Mary’s were always women of power, intelligence, grace, compassion and strength. Hail to the Mary’s!
