I have always had a problem with reading fiction. The only way I can describe it is that I’m aware I’m reading fiction. I can’t enter the story and be taken away. I have tried book clubs for this reason, thinking that being part of a group will compel me to read fiction - but it doesn’t. I can read fictional short stories and really get absorbed. This leads me to the conclusion that fiction novels are truly difficult to write well - at least for me, as I don’t know anyone else with my problem. I don’t have ADHD. And I love to read but mostly nonfiction, biographies and autobiographies. So I have become the Readup host in our book group. I select 2 stories and we discuss them over wine and food at my home. A Readup bookclub could be the perfect answer for busy people who still wish to exercise their brains, have intelligent conversations and enjoy the company of friends. Readup, in my opinion, is perfect for people who have a hard time reading. The duration of articles helps to build the skills of concentration and comprehension. And there are so many different genres to choose from. So many articles point to the crisis that people are too distracted and find reading difficult. What an incredible loss. Reading is a quality of life ingredient.
