I first discovered Nick Cave on Readup. I listened to his haunting song, As I Sat Sadly By Her Side. I loved his voice. I was so happy to then discover this article that took me further into the life of Nick Cave. I remember the beginning of the punk era and even went to several concerts where I saw Patti Smith and Iggy Pop. They were raw, angry, defiant, aggressive and exciting. I could relate because I was raised in a very strict conservative religious home. The energy of the music felt like a rebellion - a liberation. Now, 40 years later, I can see that every generation has their own voice of rebellion because it’s part of the movement of change. Anger serves to move us forward and is only dangerous if you get stuck there. Life has a way of smoothing our rough edges and I can’t imagine a worse grit sand paper than loosing a child. This story is interesting from that point of view - how loss can prompt internal revolutions of war and peace within oneself. Human nature is as beautiful and amazing as nature itself.
