Ahhhahaha. Legit laughing out loud at “Maybe you can tell her that you’re a man”

This is wonderful. Seriously lucky guy to have that kind of food situation. Impossible not to be jealous.

Looks like the Times comment section has been redone and it knocked out the ones from when this was published. Like a lot of the folks had written something to the effect of: "Let me know when I can come over to take that food off your hands."

Thanks for putting this up there -- this is the longest stretch of time that I haven't eaten my mother's cooking since I was in college. Until the lockdown, it was every two weeks. There are 6 containers now -- 2 of them are fruit, because fruit apparently isn't real food in my mother's warped categorization?!!?! Whatever. There's no arguing with her.

Sweet. No denying a Mother’s love. There are certainly worse things to complain about than a Mother cooking out of love. Perhaps he could have donated a few dishes to the homeless.

Beautifully written. Emotional and picture perfect images - I’m there listening in both households. It’s so relatable because most grandparents and mothers showed their love through cooking. I know making a big pot of soup and certain favorites for my kids when they come to visit is an act of pure love on my part. I blast Motown, Lizzo, classical - whatever and it’s so joyful. It’s the past coming to roost in the present where we continue to love, learn and laugh with each other. It doesn’t get better than that. There’s usually not enough left overs to take home, but if there is, they gladly accept - no force!

Great article… Reminds me so much of my mother… And actually my grandmother… My grandmother’s favorite line was “why can’t your mother makes Latkes like I do”. There was a simple reason for that my mother didn’t know what a latke was!
