This sounds like a really good biography. I liked that the author was intrigued that the Mexican people were more interested in greeting Gabriel Garcia Marquez than their own president or the richest man in Mexico. Also, that she loved the discipline of ballet dancers, which I find inspiring too. Her use of oral histories is affective because she was able to get some people to speak who hadn’t before. I love the backstories and it does add so much more to understanding a person’s overall complexities and how that is influencing their craft.
I read a bunch of this book at Brookline Booksmith - it’s as epic as it sounds. Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s backstory is fascinating, very “all or nothing,” which I think is an amazing way to live.
