Hi!! I actually don't subscribe because its too steep for me too. Though I am always tempted because I like the idea of higher quality tech news. Maybe I'll do the trial? I've just noticed that in their marketing they talk about the slack channel a lot.

Totally. I'm down, in theory, to pay for content. Currently though, I'm not paying for any news anywhere because there's enough free stuff all over. The two that are most tempting to me are: nytimes & washington post. Both allow several free articles per week, but after I hit my limit I have to use incognito window. Which means I can't get "really reading" credit :P

Clever idea to send a podcast community over to a slack channel. I dig it.

meta: the article itself also doesn't have a comments section :P

Totally. The Information has a private slack channel as a benefit for paid members as well! Interesting way for high quality content creators of all types to monetize.

Whoa. Slack channel envy. I want in, but I'm not sure about $39/month or $399/year. That's steep for tech news content. Is it much better than the many free options out there? Or is it the community/events stuff you're really paying for?

          And hey ariana! sup?

Hey maybe the same idea will apply here.

"Granted, there’s a big difference between listening to a podcast and reading a news article. The average article can be skimmed; podcasts often require an hour of the listener’s time. Negative commentary is more conducive to text than audio—if you’re going to troll a podcast host or guest, you really have to be committed."

Good catch. The author is basically saying that article skimming = negative "commentary." Obviously I agree
