Huh. Weird. Before reading this article, I had never heard of "long COVID." And given Ed Yong's righteous insistence that it deserves more attention, I would expect him to make a more convincing case that "long COVID" is, in fact, real. But I came away from this with more questions than answers.
I certainly don't doubt that some COVID patients suffer from ongoing health complications, but it seems strange that Yong so completely discounts the "long COVID is a psychological problem" hypothesis without providing solid contrary evidence. And there's no mention of hypochondria in this entire article. All things considered, the article is so critical of the medical community that it comes off as anti-science. Really ironic, given the context. Also, I really don't like to hear that doctors are getting badgered for recommending exercise to their patients, no matter what the circumstances are.
I'm not going to rate this article, but if I was forced to, I think I would give it a 1. I like to stay in the loop (and Ed Yong re: COVID basically is the loop) but I wouldn't recommend this to others. Especially anyone who has ever gotten a little anxious about COVID, which is basically every human I know.
