      Excellent!

We are not beefing endlessly because we do not desire peace or because we do not know how to engineer peace. We are beefing because we no longer know who we are, each of us individually, and collectively as a species. Knight and mook alike are faced with the terrifying possibility that if there is no history in the future, there is nobody in particular to be once the beefing stops.

And the only way to reboot history is to figure out new beings to be. Because that’s ultimately what beefing is about: a way to avoid being, without allowing time itself to end.

Excellent! Read this if you enjoy thinking about social media on a really high human level.

My take is that the author is specifically describing Twitter (versus the entire social web). Regardless, the overall criticism is spot on: To get big on a platform, you need to be the thing that the platform asks you to be. Period. Everyone I know has had the experience of being "too authentic" online and then realizing: oh, snap - that's actually not how I'm supposed to do this. That feeling really really sucks.

For me, the scariest thing is that I can sometimes feel myself turning a little bit into a robot. It happens, especially, when I need to "scale" myself, because online Bill scales and real Bill doesn't. Anywho, Readup makes me feel real. So that's good. And I'm usually pretty confident that my real voice is reaching other real people. Like you. :)

interesting take, bill! i definitely thought the author could have been describing the whole internets. it seems to be a perfect description of all the top places/apps, imho. i really want to meta this and turn the whole concept into art buuuut wow now I’m scared to go online 😅

haha. I'm often downright petrified to go online. but:

i really want to meta this and turn the whole concept into art

wait what does that even mean??

i mean, there are 1000 possibilities but something like: becoming a knight where the mooks are each represented by a pixel in a 3d landscape. the number of retweets or other interactions each mook gets changes the color of their pixel, and then non-noon spectators can walk through the landscape as if it were some kind of Meow Wolf-esque experience. or idk just using mook posts to train chatbots which then chat with each other in a fury of semi-sensical wordflow and then THOSE conversations are used to train chatbots which are used as customer service agents for a new travel agency.
