      Upvote.

In terms of currency, I agree that crypto is going to take everything over. State-controlled currency will be the hallmark of fascism.

The opposite of fascism isn't "laissez-faire attitudes" - it's freedom! Borders falling, changing everywhere - definitely. USA falling apart into individual countries - definitely.

I don't think that humans are going to check out, give up, at scale. This horrifies me:

Some people will choose to permanently live in VRs while machines keep their muscles from atrophying. Their "geographic footprint" will decrease, allowing for more people to inhabit the planet. Millions of artificial worlds will be created to handle the overwhelming geographic footprints of society.

I don't think it will happen because there is just something so special about a tree. Regardless, this is a battle that will take place inside every human heart and soul. Crazyyyyy.

All I can say is...I'm feeling very glad that I'll be long, long gone by the time 2084 comes around.

Trippy read. The part about VR freaks me out a bit, and yet I can totally see it being a thing.. solid read however.

Disagreeing with this misses the point, I think. The year 2084 is not randomly-selected: it's adapted from George Orwell's 1984.

In other words, it's not meant to be 'seriously predicting the future' as much as it is 'bending projections of the future through the literary dystopian lens'.

I found it entertaining, but give it the same symbolic, rather than literal, merit as 1984.

But 1984 is legit happening right now.

James Altucher, aka NYC is Dead author, back at it with 2084. It's a fairly dystopian view for sure, maybe only written to generate more buzz. I agree with parts but disagree with his Crypto-dominance analysis and geographical breakdowns. Interesting to divide the US by major electrical grids.

What about "Social Justice Mining"? lol

I definitely raised my eyebrows there lol. It's an easy line of reasoning to follow in his argument. I would imagine that if crypto does actually succeed there would definitely be decentralized free speech alternative platforms / exchanges for your SJM tokens :P

This seems really crazy and hard to believe possible. But so did TV and going to the moon 100 years ago.
