FEIW, as a daily user, my use of Duolingo has dropped from 15-30mins/day to whatever is the bare minimum to keep my streak alive. But, my comment above, like this article, is just a complaint and not a contemplation on what would be a better way of learning.
“While the group has been dismissed by many within the QAnon movement as a distraction and a clown show…”
WTF?! The epistemic drift suggested by this goofy statement may be the real danger.
Great set of decontextualized data points that misses the forest for the trees. We have made a lot of “progress” in the material sense. From my perspective, we’re flailing in the psychological, social and spiritual realms. The generation coming of age in the midst of this “abundance” is the most anxious, depressed and addicted cohort. Democracy is receding, while globally things have become a lot less stable. We have exceed 7 of 9 tracked planetary boundaries and, if we keep going, at some point, the biospheric substrate on which we all depend will fail. The engineer turned journalist author might consider looking at the bigger picture. We want reasons to be optimistic. That’s not lost on me and why I don’t want to give this a “5” - but the writer displays exactly the sort of naive optimism that tends to out compete, for our attention, the reality of our fraught situation.
