I defend business owners (salons, restaurants, etc.) doing everything they can to make money before I defend people congregating. Get on Zoom if you need to see people; the business needs to be open to survive (and the family that owns it and the people that work there too).
Impactful piece. I learned to run with my Dad too.
The only running goal I currently have is to break his time in a race we both used to run together (thankfully not a marathon). I’ll turn to this essay for inspiration.
It’s amazing what she was able to capture with the camera technology she had at the time.
Great book to read if you’d like to dive deeper into this topic is Gary Keller’s The ONE Thing.
Would you support including stories like these in Sex Ed? Yes, most kids and teens have access to plenty of info on this topic, but most of it comes from Hollywood and doesn’t tell ‘the truth’ of what firsts are really like.
An interesting question that this author could look at next is, “What would make this trend reverse?” Is there anything that would encourage more people to marry (whether that’s good or bad)?
It’s hard for me to intentionally quit a book, especially if I’m already 50 pages in and even if it’s not that good. But I unintentionally leave many books in my Kindle library that I don’t immediately get into within the first few pages. Out of sight, out of mind. Also, I heard about a rule that you really shouldn’t read nonfiction less than 10 years old, which is probably hard for tech but easier for history, self-improvement, biography, etc. What stands the test of time is worth it.
Education is going to go through a lot this next year. Thankful for her sharing her story; I hope she finds what she wants eventually.
Thank you for sharing this piece! It’s hard to ignore the endorphins I feel after a good run, especially on a ‘downer day’.
