Well-written story! Entertaining despite it leaving you guessing at actual story of the Bitfinex hack. It properly contextualizes the hack among other money heists, and how prosecutors chase crypto criminality.

It’s fascinating how Bitcoin is both the most anonymous way to hold funds, yet also traceable in plain sight when those funds are being spent.

Great writeup, though I wish there were some details about how they actually stole the Bitcoin. Wild story either way. Just watched a Razzlekhan music video and it was somehow even worse than I had imagined.

I hadn’t read your comment before but felt exactly the same way: how did these seemingly non-hackers perpetrate the largest crypto hack ever? Or if they didn’t, how did they convince the hackers to pass over the coins?

Especially given how public they were on social media, it wouldn’t surprise me if this story got retold in a Netflix documentary the likes of the Tinder Swindler or Inventing Anna, which hopefully will contain more details.
