Wow, Utah really doesn't like Sarah J. Maas. Makes me kinda curious about reading them. They must be pretty saucy to earn a statewide school library ban.
But also; what a stupid law! It's enough for three school districts to ban a book, and it gets automatically banned throughout the state, unless it goes through a convoluted reversal process.
Yup. This seems egregious. I’m wondering though, how abnormal is this? What kind of “bans” are in place in schools in other (EU) countries? It’s probably reasonable to ban age-inappropriate books in primary schools, maybe even secondary schools.
Still, banning books for all pupils on the basis of religion or ideology doesn’t seem like a good idea.
Those are very good questions! I did a little bit of research, but wasn't able to learn anything. But I wouldn't put it past the likes of Hungary or the previous Polish government.
I'm not sure if outright bans are ever necessary, because all these school libraries are curated by their librarians (or other people in charge who hopefully know what they're doing). For a ban to be necessary, the government would have to disagree with the tastes and opinions of the librarians.

Hilarious, I had the same curious thought and so will a lot of kids!
