      In Norway, we refer to the country as Tyrkia, which is closer to their preferred spelling Türkiye than the more common English spelling Turkey. But I think it's kind of unreasonable for them to expect English speakers to use a letter that's not on their keyboard.

      I listened to several pronunciations that seem to indicate a slight turn toward the OO sound in the word took mixed in with the U in turkey, almost like, “TOUR-kee.”

      Yeah, no, listen to the audio sample on Wikipedia; it's much closer to Tyrkiye. Can we compromise on spelling it with two y?
