I could kinda see this coming but the end seemed odd compared to the political focus of most of the article, which is what I found most interesting. I don’t know that part of history and was surprised to find the switch to democracy causing such upheavals.
I see what you are saying but I actually appreciated the combination of the threads in this story. If it was just all about how Communism affected the economy of Poland, it could possibly have been a little droll for me. And I loved that she was a 15 year old telling the story - one with a curiosity about how this change was affecting those in her close environment. I was engaged throughout.

The part about homeless living in manholes underneath in tunnels brought an image of Wanda Vision to mind.
