I fail to see the end-game here for Meta. What do they actually gain from adding AI users to their platform?

Maybe it's about controlling narratives. If they create thousands of these, they could direct them to counter Russian troll farms, for example. But they can also be used for evil, for example directing them to create a narrative against anti-trust legislation and corporate taxes.
